Sperry Top-Sider owner Wolverine World Wide will try its hand at fashion with the launch of a nautical-inspired collection of yachting jackets, cargo pants, sweaters and other pieces. The company hopes diversifying into apparel will expand the brand without stepping on sales of its signature footwear and establish Sperry as a "lifestyle brand," Sperry President Craig Rheingold said.
Designers showed off their latest collections in Paris this week, and retail buyers approved the cropped jackets, slim pants, tunics, oversize shirts and lower heels from Balenciaga, Givenchy, Saint Laurent and Dries Van Noten. “Paris presented one of the most highly anticipated seasons in years,” said Colleen Sherin, senior fashion director at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Macy's expects to launch an exclusive line of Hugo Boss men's and women's wear next year, the New York Post reports. The line, which carries the working title "White Label," will include suits, sportswear and accessories at lower-than-usual price points. The move would build on Macy's brand-building strategy and further Hugo Boss' ambitious goal of doubling its U.S. business.
Macy's will debut four new exclusive apparel lines and expand on its Eva Mendes- and Martha Stewart-branded house wares, the company said Wednesday. Among the clothing offerings: a "modern and aspirational" line of Ellen Tracy sportswear and cutting-edge clothes for the younger crowd from Kouture by Kimora.
Some retailers are getting stronger amid the recession or are well-positioned to improve during a recovery. Amazon, Aaron's, GameStop, Aeropostale, Buckle, Dollar Tree, O'Reilly Automotive, Priceline, Staples and Ulta Salon all make the list.
