A South Dakota Supreme Court committee is considering whether to create statewide certification standards for court interpreters. While some smaller counties say they may not have the resources to pay for certified translators -- especially those who specialize in rarer languages -- one member of the judicial committee said quality translation is imperative to the justice system. "When somebody's liberties are at stake, there's no more important time for everyone to understand the process," he said.
