While students in Washington, D.C., posted academic gains on the latest results from national math tests, the data show there is still a gap in achievement between black and white students nationally and in D.C., where the score gap between black and white fourth-graders increased from 53 to 58 points between 2007 and 2009. The findings are drawing criticism from some education advocates who say D.C. school officials are not focusing enough on raising achievement among minority students.
