Members of the science club at a Maryland middle school are studying science and math through robotics as part of a program sponsored by NASA and the National Defense Education Program. The agencies provided the school with "CalcBots" robots -- modeled after Mars rovers -- and fund weekly visits by a naval mechanical engineer who teaches the students to program the devices through "missions" that require them to solve math equations. The goal of the program is to inspire students to pursue math and science careers.
