A father who lost a daughter to complications from a less-than-ideally matched bone marrow transplant has established Natasha's Place, the first cord blood bank in the U.S. with a focus on encouraging people of mixed heritage and minority groups to sign up as potential cord blood and bone marrow donors. The bank aims to increase the chances for survival of mixed-race and minority patients through better-matched cord blood and bone marrow transplants. All the data collected by the bank, which is co-operated by Cryobanks International, will become part of a global registry.
