Educators at a Connecticut school that has a pilot K-3 Spanish immersion program say they believe immersion learning -- where no English is spoken -- is the preferred method for young students to learn a foreign language. "Just pretend you had math once a week for a half-hour," one teacher said, "How much would you know?" Students at the school receive instruction in Spanish four days a week based on the principle that they will learn and retain words by hearing them frequently. The district hopes to expand the program.
