During the past decade, Thailand's tourism industry has faced challenges ranging from SARS to a tsunami. Five years after the devastating tsunami, Phuket and Phi Phi Don island, two of Thailand's most tourism-dependent areas, are attempting to move on. Hotels have been developed or rebuilt. But the country continues to struggle. Most recently, the issue has been civil unrest coupled with the global economic downturn.
