A team of U.S. and British researchers created a crystal to further examine the 3-D structure of HIV drugs from Merck & Co. and Gilead Sciences and how they bind to and inhibit the integrase enzyme. The crystal, which was grown from an integrase found in a retrovirus similar to HIV, could help improve HIV medicines and prevent drug resistance, according to the study.
