U.S. researchers found that mice infected with Candida albicans fungus, a bloodstream yeast infection, showed a pattern of active genes that is not present in the blood of their healthy counterparts. "This study provides the basis for development of a blood-gene expression tests in humans to detect a life-threatening infection earlier than can be done using currently available methods," said one of the researchers.
