Law professor and author Rosemary Salomone argues that No Child Left Behind is impeding bilingualism and bicultural understanding in American schools, especially for English language learners. Salomone urges those revising NCLB to consider how the law's testing requirements are having a negative effect on language learning and cultural appreciation, and she calls on educators to encourage students to learn critical languages such as Arabic and Chinese in addition to European languages.
