The number of U.S. homes switching from multichannel TV to either Internet-based or over-the-air services will reach 1.6 million by next year, more than double the 2009 figure, according to Convergence Consulting Group in a report. The firm also says that pay-TV services added 2 million customers last year compared with 1.46 million in 2008. CCG predicts that the emergence of such services as Netflix, Hulu and iTunes will slice the multichannel gains to 1.8 million this year and 1.65 million in 2011.
