More Brazilian students living in Japan are attending public rather than private schools because of the economic recession, which has forced the closure of at least 30 Brazilian schools in the country. However, many parents are worried about sending their children to Japan's public schools. To help Brazilian and other migrant students -- many of whom do not speak Japanese at school or at home -- transition into public schools, the Education Ministry launched the "Rainbow Bridge classroom" transition programme.
