Only 29% of recent veterinary graduates from the University of Tennessee's vet school plan to specialize in mixed large-animal care, which could mean a shortage of food-animal vets in rural areas across the state. With many vet graduates facing high student loan debts, a university official said that "debt forgiveness awarded to young people who go to underserved areas as rural practitioners would make a positive difference."
