The New York Senate recently passed a bill that would allow workers to sue their employers if they experience physical, psychological or economic abuse at the hands of a bad boss or office bully. Unlike some other employee-benefit laws, the measure wouldn't exclude small businesses. Sixteen other states have considered similar bills in recent years, but none has been signed into law. "It's only a matter of time before this trends to other states," says employment-law attorney Jennifer Rubin. "It's politically popular."
