A study of more than 700,000 births at Dutch hospitals from 2000 to 2006 showed that babies born during nighttime hours at smaller community hospitals had a 32% to 47% increased risk of dying compared with those born during the day. Researchers, however, emphasized that regardless of the time of birth, the risk of birth complications is generally low in developed countries.
