The increasing number of children with mental-health disorders, including autism and
attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, has prompted the American Academy of Pediatrics to recommend that pediatricians check during every visit whether their patients might be experiencing behavioral or mental problems. The group also suggests doctors create a network of local mental-health experts who can conduct further tests on children whom pediatricians suspect may have mental-health issues.
