Despite federal efforts to communicate more stringent standards on plant and refinery safety rules, it is "deeply troubling" that the refining and petrochemical industries are not prompt in adopting and practicing such safety standards, said Jordan Barab of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. "We need to pass the Protecting America's Workers Act, which would significantly increase OSHA's ability to protect workers, and specifically workers in refineries and chemical plants," Barab added.
