Keith Perkins, co-owner of New Hampshire-based retailer Perkins Lawn Mower, says the demand for electric mowers has grown significantly in the past three or four years. His company offers an array of traditional -- and green -- mowers, including the Hustler Zeon, touted as the world's first zero-turn electric riding lawn mower that can go 90 minutes on one charge. Electric mowers emit 3,300 times fewer hydrocarbons, 5,000 times less carbon monoxide and less than half the carbon dioxide as gas engines, according to estimates by the Department of the Interior's Green Seal Program.
