A study found that women who eat lots of foods that contain high levels of vitamins and minerals are less likely to develop nuclear cataracts compared with those on a less healthy diet. A second study found that people who use sun-sensitizing medications are more likely to develop cortical cataracts, and a third study found that heavy smoking increases the risk for early-stage age-related macular degeneration.
