A study that reviewed data involving more than 64,000 children who had treatment for a staph infection in 25 children's hospitals in the U.S. found that methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections increased from two cases to 21 cases for every 1,000 hospital admissions between 1999 and 2008. The study also discovered that most of the staph infections were transmitted in the community setting.
