Umbilical cords donated to Hawaii Cord Blood Bank are helping to save the lives of patients of mixed races in different countries, said Dr. Randal Wada, the blood bank's founder and director. "The major reason we are able to provide more access to minorities is utilization of cord blood now. Doctors are more comfortable, and technology has evolved to the point where patient size is not so much a limitation," Wada said.
