Auto insurers are experiencing a significant increase in fraudulent auto glass claims, with referrals in the first half of this year increasing by more than 500% compared with the same period last year, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. "Many people are feeling pressured by salespeople to get their windshields replaced," said Lynne McChristian, Florida representative for the Insurance Information Institute. The repairs may result in fraudulent claims for nonexistent damage, and the replacement windshields may be of poor quality, experts note.
