A full-scale underwater turbine is up and running off the coast of Maine, as part of tests that developers hope will lead to tidal-energy turbines feeding into the state's energy grid by the end of 2011. The 60-kilowatt tidal turbine is the largest yet built in U.S. waters, said Chris Sauer, president and CEO of Ocean Renewable Power Co. "It's a critical step to our first commercial unit," he said.
