Sometimes, patients with serious illnesses deserve thoughtful supportive care and should not be pushed into ineffective aggressive therapy, oncology nurse Theresa Brown says. Brown recounts the case of a prostate cancer survivor and leukemia patient whose condition worsened after being coerced to choose chemotherapy instead of palliative care, which she says could have sustained his quality of life for the time he had remaining.
