South Korea's LG Chemicals will join Japan's Mitsubishi Motors in developing a lithium-ion vehicle-battery system for plug-in hybrids and small electric cars slated for the next few years, according to a Japanese newspaper. LG Chem already works with South Korea's Hyundai and U.S. automakers Ford and General Motors, but its partnership with Mitsubishi may lead to the first overseas development of lithium-ion battery technology by a Japanese automaker, the newspaper said.
