A study of 358 patients who need heart valve replacements but are not candidates for open-heart surgery showed that 30% of those who were implanted with Edwards Lifesciences' transcatheter aortic valve died a year after, compared with half of those who didn't receive the device. However, the study showed that valve recipients were more likely to have strokes than those who didn't get the device.
