"The Martha Stewart Show," for its launch on the Hallmark Channel, garnered half as many viewers as had tuned in to repeat episodes of "Golden Girls," "Little House on the Prairie" and "M*A*S*H" that previously ran in the time slots. The key 25-to-54 female segment also went missing, with "Martha" attracting between 52% and 76% fewer viewers in the demographic over three time slots.
Fox hit show "American Idol" is looking for would-be contestants to upload audition videos via News Corp.-owned social network MySpace. The show's producers are seeking 40-second clips from renditions of a pre-selected group of songs.
Edwin Newman, who during three decades at NBC News was a foreign correspondent, "Today" show host and fill-in anchor, and later became a well-known lecturer on journalism and proper grammar, died Aug. 13 in Oxford, England. He was 91.
