The downturn spurred some boutiques in the Lexington, Ky., area to shut their doors, but the survivors say they're making ends meet by continuing to focus on bringing one-of-a-kind designs to their customers. "People definitely want unique items, something special you are not going to see everywhere else. Even in difficult economic times, people still want specialty items, to keep things new and fresh," said one boutique manager.
