The American Petroleum Institute is collaborating with the federal government to make sure that new offshore-drilling policies do not result in the "the bar [being] raised so high," said Jack Gerard, president and CEO of API. Gerard said producers may focus their activities outside the U.S. should they find it too hard to comply. "We're working closely with them to find that key balance, without discouraging energy development," he added.
