The American Petroleum Institute, the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce filed a motion to intervene in two lawsuits that seek to bar the Department of Defense from using Canadian oil sands-generated fuel. Allowing development of such a resource could generate 343,000 jobs in the U.S. over the next half-decade, said Bob Greco, API's director of downstream operations. "Those are jobs that our struggling economy could certainly use -- and as the economy recovers, it could also use the half a billion [barrels per year] that Canadian oil sands could provide," he said.
