A report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration shows that most of more than 100,000 emergency visits annually for unintentional swallowing or ingestion of medicines were made by children younger than age 5. Among these younger children, about 85% were treated and released from the emergency department, while about 10% required hospital admission due to more serious reactions to the overdosing.
