Palomar Pomerado Health is testing a device, called Xenex PX-UV, that can kill methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and other types of drug-resistant "superbugs" in hospitals by targeting the DNA of microbes with high-intensity ultraviolet light. Texas-based Xenex Healthcare Services developed the system, which received marketing approval in June.
