Miami-Dade officials announced that a resident has been diagnosed with the first case of dengue fever diagnosed in the area since the 1950s. Cases of the mosquito-borne illness have been on the rise in other parts of Florida during the past two years, along with cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Officials in the area are also warning local doctors and hospitals to watch for cases of cholera, as aid workers begin returning from Haiti.
