Changes to the airport screening process are prompting some travelers to turn to charter jets and rental cars instead of commercial aviation, observers say. Demand for charter jets has increased 52% this month from year-ago levels, according to a trade group. "The majority of that can be credited to an increase in business travel and economic recovery, but the TSA security hassle factor has absolutely had an additive effect on air taxi and air charter demand," says Joe Leader, president of the Air Taxi-Air Charter Association. Meanwhile, the American Car Rental Association says business is up as much as 11% so far in November.
