There are a disproportionate number of nonminority students in gifted-education programs across Texas, but officials say those numbers may be changing. One cause for the improvement may be that more districts are updating their systems for identifying students as gifted to ensure that more minorities are included. "I am seeing movement in the right direction with more of those students in under-represented groups being identified as [gifted and talented]," one official said.
