Although LGBT-rights advocates hope the end of "don't ask, don't tell" will provide momentum to the battle for marriage equality and other key LGBT rights, they acknowledge that such victories don't come easily. "All social justice movements are two steps forward, three steps back. It's always been a lot of highs and sometimes more lows, but the highs tend to be more momentous than the lows," said Human Rights Campaign spokesman Fred Sainz.
