The Center for Economic and Policy Research said a tax on financial transactions could generate $150 billion in 2011 and help resolve fiscal issues in the U.S. The center looked at the U.K.'s 0.25% tax on stock trades and how a similar tax in the U.S. would work. Proponents said such a tax would target hedge funds and other sophisticated investors, while the banking industry said it would affect individual investors, too.
