The Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers released two of seven bale specifications intended for recycling of nonbottle rigid plastics. The year-over-year amount of post-consumer nonbottle rigid plastics recycled in 2009 was up almost 33%, according to the American Chemistry Council, but exports limited new materials for North American recyclers. "The lack of bale specifications leads to nonbottle rigid plastic material being exported rather than being used by domestic plastic markets," said Elizabeth Bedard, director of rigid-plastics recycling at APPR.
