Oregon State University researchers are working with Portland-based hybrid poplar-tree grower GreenWood Resources to develop a biodegradable plastic material made from poplar tree leaves. "Using a renewable resource like poplar trees to produce bio-polymers would be revolutionary," said Jake Eaton, a managing director at GreenWood. "This is the first time this has been done in the U.S. -- exploring a dedicated energy system with trees," said Steven Strauss, one of the researchers on the project.
