A U.K. survey of 7,000 mastectomy patients found that 76% of those who delayed breast reconstruction were satisfied with their appearance afterward, compared with 59% of those who had reconstruction immediately. A possible explanation for the difference: Women who delay reconstruction may compare the result to the previous surgical scars, while women who have reconstruction immediately may compare the result to what they looked like before mastectomy.
