The Alvin, Texas, school district has been operating propane-powered buses since 1980 and has 94 propane vehicles. It plans to expand its propane fleet, thanks to a $282,500 grant from the Texas Railroad Commission. "Propane as a fuel for school buses makes sense because of the significant fuel savings per gallon and the improvement in the air quality that our students experience when riding a propane-fueled school bus," said district Superintendent Fred Brent.
