HHS released rules governing accountable care organizations, which move provider payments and health care delivery systems away from traditional fee-for-services toward bundled payments and a focus on coordinated care. While welcoming movement toward delivery system reform, AHIP CEO Karen Ignagni said insurers are concerned ACOs could "accelerate the trend of provider consolidation that drives up medical prices and result in additional cost-shifting to families and employers with private coverage." The reimbursement model for physicians under ACOs also is a concern for insurers.
