Changes to the Americans With Disabilities Act that take effect in May will mean more work for small businesses. The regulations will expand the definition of "disability" and place the burden of proof on business owners when disputes arise. Labor and employment lawyer Jeff Nowak says the changes may cost businesses more money to accommodate disabled employees. "And it will be more important than ever before for employers to maintain accurate documentation ... so they can show down the line that they've actively engaged with an employee," Nowak said.
