Green cleaning-product manufacturer Method uses a "Dirty Ingredients List" to guide its product innovations, writes Drummond Lawson, the company's sustainability director. The list is based on a "precautionary principle" that requires product designers to reject ingredients that aren't known beyond a reasonable doubt to be safe and sustainable, Lawson explains. "Unless we can be confident of an ingredient's safety, we won't develop formulas using it," he writes.
