Using gold nanoparticles with Raman spectroscopy effectively and safely identifies colorectal cancer, according to a U.S. study published in Science Translational Medicine. The gold nanoparticles work by seeking out and lighting up the cancer cells in the bowel in order to be picked up through imaging, according to the study on mice. The researchers said the method could be ready for human studies by the end of next year.
