Maurice Elias, director of the Social-Emotional Learning Lab at Rutgers University, predicts in this blog post that the social, emotional and character development of students will largely be ignored by a reauthorized Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Elias recommends all students receive at least 30 minutes of instruction related to social, emotional and character development and that teachers be prepared to teach such skills. He also recommends schools conduct climate surveys.
