Application developers, wireless engineers and philanthropists will be among those gathering this week in California to celebrate the benefits of machine-to-machine technology at an event co-sponsored by Vodafone Americas Foundation and mHealth Alliance. The third-annual Wireless Innovation Project recognizes developers who apply M2M to solve the world's health challenges. This year's winner -- Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab -- developed an easy-to-use application known as NETRA that uses an adapted mobile phone to conduct remote eye scans and then sends the data to an optometrist for diagnosis.
