Same-store sales for April were better than expected, climbing 8.5% over last year according to ICSC's index. The shift in the date for Easter padded the number by some 2% to 3%, and when fuel prices are excluded, the month's sales were up 7.4% from the previous year. "Rising fuel and food prices are cutting into discretionary spending power, which is likely to temper the trend pace of spending ahead," said ICSC's Michael P. Niemira.
