The demand for hot young talent capable of generating new ideas for next-generation products and services is prompting tech giants, such as Facebook and Google, to acquire entire companies, in some cases, just to get to one person. Market watchers say the proliferation of so-called talent acquisitions reflects the increasingly competitive market for tech innovators and the lengths to which companies are willing to go to get them on board. "The war for talent has gotten even hotter," said Scott Dettmer, an attorney and tech-market consultant. "And this is another vehicle to satisfy the insatiable quest for talent."
