Group of Eight leaders are seeking tougher global safety standards for nuclear energy in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear crisis in Japan, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said. "We all wish to get a very high standard of regulation on nuclear safety, that will apply to all countries involved in civilian nuclear energy and which will take safety to the highest levels ever," Sarkozy said. He maintained no energy source can replace nuclear energy, but projects need to be driven by safety.
